  • YouTube offers creators new ways to earn money

San Francisco: YouTube, often criticized for not compensating creators well enough, will allow them to set up paid channel memberships, the company said today.

Currently the vast majority of revenue at the Google-owned service comes from advertising and that will remain a focus, said Neal Mohan, YouTube’s chief products officer. “But we also want to think beyond ads. Creators should have as many ways and opportunities to make money as possible,” he said.

Viewers will pay $4.99 a month for channel memberships giving them access to exclusive content including livestreams, extra videos or shout-outs on channels with more than 100,000 subscribers. Creators will also be able to sell merchandise like shirts or phone cases directly on their channels, the company said.

YouTube returns a small part of its advertising revenue to content creators who regularly accuse the platform of giving them only crumbs. The site is facing increasing competition from other platforms using more and more video. YouTube says it has more than 1.9 billion users but the figure only counts those who log in via their accounts.

  • WhatsApp might be working wit Microsoft to build new Windows app

San Francisco: Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp is reportedly working with Microsoft to deliver a proper desktop app.

WhatsApp is one of the few developers that consistently delivered updates to its Windows Phone app, but a report by Windows Central suggests WhatsApp is actually getting ready to deliver a proper desktop app as well, TheNextWeb reported on Saturday.

Concept art for a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) version of WhatsApp showed up on Behance before being promptly removed. It appeared to be a native Windows app with UWP design tenets like acrylic transparency, the report said. Furthermore, a description of the project suggested Microsoft and WhatsApp were working closely on the project.

Rewinding a bit, WhatsApp does already have an app for the desktop but it’s basically just a port of the company’s web app. While the web app is pretty functional, it misses out on important features like voice and video calling. This UWP project, on the other hand, clearly shows buttons necessary for calls. It also looks a lot nicer.

  • Does Reseller Hosting Make Business Sense?

With the world moving towards web space, online presence for businesses has become a necessity. This has had a ripple effect, which necessitates every company to have a web presence. It is a no-brainer that the easiest way of having an online presence is to have a website.

With a fueling demand for website, the web hosting industry has also witnessed a boom in the last few years and the trend is here to stay! Now the interesting bit is that the new-age ‘wantrepreneurs’ have jumped onto the “web hosting’ bandwagon as an interesting and profitable business model.

    Defining reseller hosting

Reseller hosting is a type of web hosting solution wherein a company or a hosting provider rents hard drive space and bandwidth to another company, typically a small-mid size business that in turn rents out the space to third parties for end use. In other words, the reseller purchases the host’s services in bulk and then sells them to customers.

    Is reseller hosting profitable?

For entrepreneurs looking at setting up a business in the domain of web hosting, Reseller hosting is a good way to start as it involves minimum investment and infrastructure when compared to setting up other models of web hosting.  Leading companies provide a host of solutions that enable resellers to choose their own service plans and pricing structure. There are successful examples of resellers, who were able to establish their own branding through customized control panels and servers.

    Types of Reseller Platforms

Linux reseller hosting: Leading hosting providers including BIGROCK provide Linus Reseller Hosting solutions, which enable startups to purchase the hosting package in large volumes (wholesale) and then resell the allotted Linux hosting services at a profitable margin.

Windows reseller hosting: A number of companies specialize in windows reseller hosting, in which resellers can make alterations and customize the hosting solution purchased and then sell it for good returns.

So which of the two is better?

Well, this depends on the tools and scripting languages the business plans to use –PHP, Perl or MySQL, work well on Linux. Window reseller hosting is a good option for businesses that need easy compatibility of Microsoft based technologies.

    Market Growth of Reseller Hosting

    Source: Market Research future https://ift.tt/2iKp1BP

According to a recent study by Market Research Future, the Web Hosting Services market witnessed a double –digit growth in the last three years.  By 2022 the industry will be valued at approximately $154 billion (USD).

The push factors for market growth include the burgeoning E-Commerce across the globe. Also, the penetration of mobile technologies across the globe, including smart phone and tablet applications has further fueled the demand for web hosting services. Emerging “smart” technologies or “Internet of Things” (IoT) will further lead to a sharp rise in demand for Internet real estate.

In essence, all the above factors translate into more and more individuals/businesses needing to look for online presence of their products, messages, and services online. Interestingly, SMEs are touted as the fastest growing segment that will fuel the demand for web hosting services. They are also the ideal target segment for resellers.

    The Way Forward

Now is the right and ripe time for entrepreneurs to leverage the big growth opportunity by starting their own reseller hosting company. What are you waiting for? Get Started, Get Going!

  • Microsoft unveils new security tools for IoT, edge devices

San Francisco: To help enterprises secure their data and networks against growing cyber attacks, Microsoft has announced new intelligent security tools and technologies for Internet of Things (IoT) and edge devices.

The company introduced “Azure Sphere”, the industry’s first holistic platform to create secured, connected microcontroller unit (MCU) devices on the “intelligent edge”. MCU-powered devices are the most populous area of computing, with roughly nine billion new devices every year.

The company also unveiled several new intelligent security features for its Microsoft 365 commercial Cloud offering — designed to help IT and security professionals simplify how they manage security across their enterprises.

“As last year’s devastating cyber attacks demonstrated, security threats are evolving and becoming even more serious,” Microsoft President Brad Smith said in a statement late on Monday. “The tech sector’s innovations need to accelerate to outpace security threats. Today’s steps bring important security advances not just to the cloud, but to the billions of new devices that are working on the edge of the world’s computer networks,” Smith added.

MCUs are found in everything — from toys and household appliances to industrial equipment – and with “Azure Sphere”, Microsoft extends the boundaries of the “intelligent edge” power and secure this category of devices.

To help teams stay prepared and ahead of threats, the company released “Microsoft Secure Score” and “Attack Simulator”. “Secure Score” makes it easier for organisations to determine which controls to enable to help protect users, data and devices by quickly assessing readiness and providing an overall security benchmark score.

“Attack Simulatora, part of Office 365 Threat Intelligence, lets security teams run simulated attacks — including mock ransomware and phishing campaigns — to event-test their employees’ responses and tune configurations accordingly.

With the latest Windows 10 update, now in preview, “Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection” (ATP) works across other parts of Microsoft 365 to include threat protection and remediation spanning Office 365, Windows and Azure.

“Also available today in preview, and with the upcoming Windows 10 update, are new automated investigation and remediation capabilities in Windows Defender ATP, leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to quickly detect and respond to threats on endpoints, within seconds, at scale,” the company said.

It also announced a new “Microsoft Intelligent Security Association” for security technology partners so they can benefit from, and contribute to. Members of the association will be able to create more integrated solutions for customers that provide greater protection and detect attacks more quickly.
